To continue the conversation of personal branding, I will be analyzing and critiquing an article about a skill every business professional should be savvy in --> digital marketing. Digital platforms have taken the forefront for marketing because it's where our audience spends much of their time. We have no choice but to adapt and master this new and ever-changing environment.
I chose this TEDx talk because it is an introduction to how social media can significantly contribute to customer communication and reach. Understanding how to use and implement skills on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram will enhance marketing opportunities. As Teresa Heath-Wareing mentioned during her Ted-X video, social media allows us to communicate with people all around the world. For further analysis, this is a skill that can quickly turn a local business into an international phenomenon. In other words, your customer outreach is not just limited to locals; social media has allowed companies to expand too much wider audiences.
Heath-Wareing comments on how important social media is within a marketing strategy, and therefore, should be considered with utmost importance. It's an easy way for businesses to expand their brand awareness and communicate with their customers. Furthermore, social media changed the way we communicate. We are no longer limited to calls, texts, and emails. Social media allows us to use images to convey messages to our customers. For further analysis, pictures can often have more impact than words because it leaves room for audience interpretation. Platforms such as Facebook and Instagram are an excellent tool to showcase these messages to an audience. Text art, such as emoji's, is also an essential consideration within digital communication. They serve as a way to convey emotions and strike attention to captions.
Heath-Wareing mentions how platforms such as Twitter can be used to communicate with customers. Companies such as Tesco Mobile use Twitter as a customer service tool. This speeds up the process of the communication turnaround from customers to customer service, and back. A Facebook platform serves as another way for customers to find groups related to a specific topic. If a company is aware of these groups, it can contribute content and reach multiple customers at once.
There has been a shift in the role marketers have to play. We need to become increasingly creative and innovative with the content we create to ensure that customers will stay engaged. This includes creating blogs, videos, and podcasts to keep up with entertainment.
Once your content is creative and new, you must expand your reach so that this context impacts more users. Facebook is especially strategic on customer reach, as it can filter and target customers based on their age, gender, job, location, and so much more. Additionally, through something called a pixel, businesses can track which customers are visiting your site. This information is beneficial, as it allows companies to be more aware of who their customer is and how to interest them.
I hope this information will give you more insight on how to expand your customer communication and reach with social media. So get inspired!
